hi, i'm vivek. pull up a chair.

Break it. Learn it. Teach it.

Vivek Shukla. Head of Editing, from India. I mentor creatives, motion designers and video editors, and I still take things apart to see how they're made.

HELLO

Vivek
season 01: the story so far

Five episodes.
One very curious guy.

Grab some chai. Each episode takes about a minute. No spoilers. Okay, a few.

  1. Ep. 01The toy autopsyIndia, the early years
  2. Ep. 02Down the rabbit holeThe anime years
  3. Ep. 03Plot twistThe setback
  4. Ep. 04Now playingToday
  5. Ep. 05The best partThe real reward
EP.01the toy autopsy

Most kids played with toys. I opened them.

Growing up in India, every toy held together with a screw got the same treatment: taken apart, laid out on the floor and studied.

Not to break it. To understand how it was made. Putting it back together was… optional.

screw #4 of 3?? spring (lost forever) the important bit age: very small
EP.02down the rabbit hole

Then anime happened. Then: how?

I didn't just watch anime. I needed to know how it was made. How does a drawing move? What's a keyframe? Why does that one punch feel so heavy?

Every answer opened three new questions. I went down the rabbit hole and never came back up. Honestly, there's just too much to explore down here.

frame 01 / 36 lesson #1 for every animator: the bouncing ball. squash!
EP.03plot twist

Too much energy. Not enough plan.

Every good story has a setback. Mine? I'd skip the storyboard and jump straight to execution. Pure energy, zero plan. Some of it worked. A lot of it didn't.

The lesson stuck: plan the shot, then shoot it.

(still the guy who wants to hit render first. working on it.)

1. plan (skipped) 2. EXECUTE!!! 3. …oops the fix: plan first → then go.
EP.04now playing

Now I help others make things move.

Today I lead editing, and I mentor people who make things: creatives, motion designers and video editors, wherever they're starting from. In between, I'm still exploring art.

  • Head of Editing. Leading the cut, the pace and the people behind it.
  • Mentor. For creatives, motion designers and video editors.
  • Art explorer. Still asking “but how is it made?”

mid-explanation. probably about to ask a question.
EP.05the best part

My favourite work isn't on a timeline. It's people.

What I'm proudest of isn't a reel. It's seeing how people change once we start working together: the questions they ask, the work they make, the way they see their own craft.

Special moves

  1. Asks a lot of questions
  2. Can talk for hours
  3. Teaches anything, to anyone
  4. Weakness: executes before planning

stats are self-reported. probably accurate.

next time, on season 2…

Vivek builds
a community.

I'm starting my own content to bring together curious people: creatives, motion designers, editors, anyone who keeps asking “but how is it made?”. Want to be in it? Let's talk.
